How do I line my eyes without looking stupid?

I have large "doe" eyes, with a big waterline on both the top and bottom lids. They're round, and look good with cat eyes done with liner on only the upper lids, but I can't find a way to line the bottom lids without looking like a three-year-old trying out Mommy's makeup for size. I feel like I should know how to do this properly. How?
