Is it awful to want to detach a 11 month old baby from mommy? ?

My son is 11 months old and all he wants is for me to hold him. When we visit other family members he screams and cry. No one can baby sit him because he is so fussy. What can I do to get him to like other people and not be afraid to be with out me?? Help plz
