My top retainer wire broke?

My top retainer wire snapped when I was eating an apple (long story), right where the loop is. I already had to replace my retainer once (lost it) and my mom will KILL me if she has o pay $230 for ANOTHER one. Since it's just one break in one place, could they just meld it back together for free? Or is there maybe even a super-glue that could fix it? Because it didn't snap in half down the center, it just snapped by the loop, &I can actually still wear the retainer. It doesn't snag my lip or anything, either. But now I can't eat with it, and I have to be reeeaally careful about how I move my mouth. So, it needs to be fixed, but it's a minor break. How do I fix it, and/or, can my ortho fix it for free?
