Normal Toddler behavior?

Sounds like a 2 year old to me. Kids have a lot of stages they go through. Communication is still developing and often is better with family than with others. What you want to look for is that he is overall getting better with time. Does he communicate more now than he did a few months ago? If he is not improving or begins to regress, then you should talk about it with your doc. Otherwise he is probably fine. My daughter spent so much time looking at lights and ceiling fans I thought she would get a kink in her neck, but she now looks perfectly well at her playmates and talks non stop.
